So, you want to take your laptop out into the wilds where there is nary an electrical outlet to be found. Well, the good news is it is quite possible to stay computing on an extended camping trip when not using a gas-powered generator to produce electricity. Laptop batteries may be kept fully charged using the sun depending on just how much the laptop is employed.

Average Run Time is Two Hours

Most laptops can run for about two hours on a fully charged battery. A solar battery charger can typically provide one-third the power to run a typical laptop computer. So, for every hour the laptop gets used, it will take three hours to recharge the battery. Newer, smaller and more efficient notebook-styled laptop computers can run for about five hours on a fully charged battery where a solar charger can provide two-thirds the required power. But is it possible to produce a 1-to-1 power ratio?

Understanding the Concept of Using Solar Power

The essence of putting the sun to use powering a laptop is employing solar panels to collect the sun’s energy that is then converted to 12-volt, direct current (DC) electricity. This electricity is stored in a deep cycle battery until it is called upon for powering use. Then it is converted into 110 volt, alternating current (AC) electricity – typical household current – necessary to run a laptop and maybe a printer. Solar battery chargers are a fairly inexpensive way to power not only a laptop when camping out in the wild, but can also provide power for other devices such as MP3 players, cell phones and similar devices.

Here is What to Do

Obtain a “jump pack” battery from one of many manufacturers. I bought a Duracell mode from Amazon that also has a built in radio, light, and inverter. A model like this this will actually deliver the electricity to the laptop battery when you plug it in. Then purchase a 12v solar panel with a minimum output of 5 watts…although 10 watts or more would be better. Again, there are many manufacturers offering different models. This plugs into the jump pack battery during daylight hours to keep it charged. This set-up works well because it is versatile and it will run both mobile DC and AC devices.

Having a radio is important in many scenarios, such as power outages in a home or even camping trips. They are great for providing entertainment through talk shows and music, but can also be important for finding out current weather conditions or local shelter locations in case of severe storms. The only problem is that many radios require batteries or an electrical source, which may not always be available in emergency situations. Luckily, solar powered radios make it possible to pick up radio broadcasts by using only the power from the sun.

Most solar powered radios can provide hours of power on a full charge, which can be done by placing the radio in direct sunlight for several hours. Most radios also come with a wind up function, which makes it possible to use the radio when sunlight is not available.

Most solar powered radios will offer both am and fm broadcasts, and many with carry NOAA weather channels as well.

A solar cooker, also known as a solar oven, is a device that uses only sunlight in order to cook food. They are most commonly used for outdoor cooking, especially when fuel or other sources for cooking are not easily available. They are also handy in locations where a fire risk is high, since they don’t require the use of fire or any source of fuel except the sun.

There are three basic types of solar ovens, all of which use energy from the sun to cook food. A box cooker is ideal for cooking large amounts of food, since it cooks food evenly while only using solar power. Panel cookers use various flat panels, which absorb the sun and concentrate it onto a pot in the middle of the cooker. A parabolic cooker is a concave disk which concentrates sunlight onto the middle of the cooker, where the food is placed to be cooked. This cooker usually cooks food as fast as a typical oven, but can result in eye injury if not used correctly.

It does take longer to cook a meal in a solar oven instead of a regular oven, so plan on allowing about twice as much time to cook a meal if making it in a solar oven. This can vary though, since it depends on the food being cooked as well as the type of solar oven being used. The amount of direct sunlight can also change cooking times when using a solar oven, since direct sunlight will allow the solar oven to get hot and cook fairly fast.

A solar oven can be easily built out of common materials, such as cardboard and reflective materials such as aluminum foil. You can use wood if you plan on using the solar oven in wet weather, but cardboard is ideal for an inexpensive cooker. A dark, swallow pot can then be placed within the cooker, and it will heat up using the power from the sun being reflected off of the foil or other reflective materials. Solar ovens can also be purchased, and usually work better than a homemade version.

Solar Cooker with Pot

Because a solar oven works much like a regular oven, almost any type of food can be prepared in it. A solar oven works by heating up the pot using solar heat, just like a pot being heated using a flame. Anything from pasta to soups can be made in a solar oven, as long as the ingredients are handy and the sun is out. Unlike many other solar products, solar ovens are not able to store unused energy, so they can only be used in direct sunlight. Sometimes the cooker must be adjusted in order to receive direct sunlight, but solar ovens with various reflectors can receive sunlight no matter what angle they are positioned.

Using a solar oven is a great way to cook without using electricity, and is ideal for camping trips or outdoor adventures where conventional cooking methods are not available. They can either be built or purchased, and work great at cooking almost any type of meal.

After getting all the bushes trimmed and the lawn mowed, you now face the task of how to make your pond or swimming pool presentable. With that, you thought landscape lighting will do great in dramatically blending your pool or pond into your garden, so you searched the internet for possible outdoors lighting options. To your dismay, all outdoor lighting demanded a great deal of work; they needed to be assembled and wired into a power source. At the same web page, you saw an amazing picture of solar floating lights treatment and you thought, “Not a bad idea”.

Solar power light globes and saucer treatments are items that you can easily use for all decorating purposes. With no wires and part assembly required, you can easily drop several pieces of solar floating lights to your pond or pool and make it the center piece of your home’s landscape. These convenient light treatments can turn your pond, swimming pool and any other water feature into a unique outdoor accent. What’s more interesting is that these treatments as so easy to arrange and operate. These beautiful light treatments illuminate your pool in the most interesting of ways, giving your garden an enchanting atmosphere, to the delight of your guests.

To produce a spectrum of colors, solar floating lights make use of LED lights so it can easily produce lights rays that shine through its plastic housing. These submersible water and garden light treatments are available in a number of color selections; blue, green, red and yellow or amber. Some solar floating lights may even have light shifting features; changing its color to several hues of green, yellow, red, blue and purple. Some designs include a pedestal or weight inside the housing to make the lights easy to position on the water, in the garden or even hanged in the tree. Manufacturers caution the use of these lights on chlorinated water for it tends to cloud its plastic housing with prolonged use. On the other hand, they are great in accentuating ponds such as koi ponds.

So when do solar floating lights turn on? The answer lies on its photo sensor. During daylight, its built-in and portable solar power generator collects and converts solar energy to charge the battery. During sundown, the photo sensor automatically switches the LED lights on. From dusk till dawn, you can rely on these light treatments to stay on with your outdoor landscape, giving them and exceptional value.

Solar floating lights are the latest addition to the increasing number of solar-operated product range. It makes use of LED light technology to produce bright colored lights. This compact light assembly shines through a sphere, saucer or concave shaped translucent and UV resistant housing. As the name implies, these light treatments operate on solar power, it does not need to be wired to an electrical power source to light up. A typical design places the solar panel inside the housing to convert its collected sunlight into electricity, which is stored in its built-in battery pack.

A solar powered backpack isn’t a commonly used piece of solar powered equipment, but it can become useful in many different situations. It works just like any other piece of solar equipment, by taking in energy from the sun to provide electricity to various electronics. The solar panels are usually found on the outside of the backpack, so they can have access to direct sunlight when it is being worn.

A solar powered backpack is ideal for hiking or camping trips, since it can actually be used to charge a number of different electronics. It works with electronics that have chargers that are used in a typical cigarette lighter in a car, but instead uses energy from the sun rather than a battery from a car. It can be used to provide electricity to cell phones, PDA’s, digital music players, and practically any small electronic that comes with a car charger.

The best part about a solar powered backpack it that it can function just like a regular backpack, while still being able to charge all of your small electronics. Everything needed to provide electricity is inside the backpack, but there is still plenty of room for camping or hiking items. Most solar powered backpacks are large enough to hold a laptop and many other items, and even contain designated pockets for smaller items like cell phones, water bottles, and even music players.

A solar powered backpack is great for anyone who does not always have access to an electrical outlet, and doesn’t like to carry around regular chargers for all of their electronics. It makes it possible to keep a cell phone charged even when at school, a digital music player while jogging, or even charge up a portable navigation system when hiking through the woods.

Camping in an RV can be a very fun and rewarding experience, but can sometimes become inconvenient when the RV needs to be charged. One must find a camp ground, hotel, or other location that can charge an RV, rather than being able to enjoy the great outdoors all day long. The best solution for getting the most out of an RV trip is by hooking up an RV solar system, since it can be charged by using the power from the sun.

An RV solar power system works much like a typical residential system, since is consists of solar panels, an inverter, as well as a battery to store excess energy. Energy from the sun is collected during the day while the sun is out, and any energy not being used is stored in the battery for later use. The solar system on an RV is used for powering electronics and appliances within the camper, so using regular gasoline will still be required for driving.

Adding a solar system to an RV a fairly inexpensive job, and can provide great benefits in the long run. It is best for those who plan on camping in their RV for extended periods of time, since they will not be required to drive to the nearest charging location during their trip. It makes it possible to enjoy the great outdoors without having to take a trip into town, and can even save great deals of money by not having to charge an RV at home. An RV solar power system is great for anyone who owns an RV, especially since it is a clean, quiet, and non-polluting way to keep an RV ready to go.

Solar power can be used to provide electricity to a number of different electric appliances, automobiles, and practically anything that requires electricity. Battery chargers are no exception, and can actually be used to charge batteries by using electricity created by the sun. Solar powered battery chargers are just like those that plug into an electrical outlet, but instead use solar panels to gather energy from the sun to be transformed into the energy inside each battery.

There are a number of different solar powered battery chargers on the market, ranging from chargers for size A batteries to those for car batteries. They all perform the same way, by using solar panels to transform the rays from the sun into usable electricity. The process used to charge batteries using sunlight is called the photovoltaic effect, and involves transforming sunlight into usable energy with help from a few components. A conducting material is used in the process, such as silicon, which actually works to break the atoms from the electrons to allow the energy to be absorbed. Once this occurs, the sunlight can actually travel through the silicon or other conducting material in order for it to become usable energy.

The least expensive and most popular type of solar powered battery chargers is one that can charge regular batteries, such as size D, C, A, AA, and even AAA. It works with batteries that are rechargeable, such as those that come with a standard battery charger that plugs into an electrical outlet. The batteries are placed inside the device, and when left in direct sunlight, can be charged to full capacity in a short period of time. This device is ideal for camping trips, since the batteries can be charged without needing any type of electrical outlet.

A Solar Powered Battery Charger

Solar powered battery chargers can also be used to charge car batteries, which is ideal for those who may not be close to a repair shop. It plugs directly into the cigarette lighter in any car, and can actually charge the battery with the help from sunlight rather than draining it when in use. They can be used for small and large charges, as long as sun conditions are ideal and able to provide enough power.

With the popularity of small electronics growing, the need for solar powered battery chargers has also evolved. Solar powered battery chargers for small electronics such as iPods, cell phones, small handheld video game devices, and even personal digital assistants are now available, and make it possible to charge these items when an electrical outlet isn’t nearby. Most are sold with interchangeable adapters that can fit into many small electronics, so charging many different items is easy as long as the sun is shining strong.

Because solar power research has increased over the years, many new items and ideas are evolving about how solar power can be used. Solar power can be used to provide electricity to homes, cars, batteries, and even small electronics, so the need for standard electrical outlets is no longer as important as it used to be.
